I think evolution as an artist is a matter of staying curious and open-minded. You’re never quite sure where inspiration will strike, but if you stay open, it will guide you. Sometimes, as with the Making Time collection, you’re only able to understand the inspiration the deeper you get.
There’s a saying, “It never gets easier, you just get better,” and I find this absolutely true when it comes to my work. Drawing is a process of learning how to see, really. It requires pausing, stepping back, and looking from different angles. There are countless tiny corrections in assumption and expectation. Each piece is just practice for the next.
I’d like to move the collection into a more conceptual realm and perhaps play around with our relationship to time. As an artist, it’s trusting that the murky ideas swirling around in your head will get sharper over time and the worthy ones eventually sift to the top.
