The standout among Roger Dubuis’s latest releases is undoubtedly the Orbis in Machina, an uncommon central tourbillon watch, a rarity in the world of tourbillon timepieces. In fact, a central tourbillon is arguably less prevalent than a multi-axis tourbillon.
What sets the Orbis in Machina apart is not only the placement of the sizable tourbillon at the center of the dial but also the watch’s design. It exudes sleekness, elegance, and a futuristic allure that is unmistakably Roger Dubuis, yet it’s not as ostentatious as many of the brand’s skeleton watches.
One of the reasons for this subtlety is undoubtedly the closed dial, concealing most of the movement (except for the central tourbillon). An attractive feature of the dial is the minute and hour indicator, unconventional in its presentation – they aren’t typical hour and minute hands but rather small indicators affixed to a rotating dial or disc, creating the illusion of orbiting around the central tourbillon.
