Over the last few years, Furlan Marri has quickly made its mark as an incredibly exciting brand and one with a remarkably relevant proposition. Founders Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri built their brand around the democratization of horology. This vision comes at a time when the traditional staples of luxury watchmaking — let alone the mid-century designs that inspire Furlan Marri’s watches — are hard to acquire for the average watch enthusiast.
Furlan Marri’s solution was to make affordable watches for the next generation. And, for the sake of the price tag, they made them in Asia and utilized hard-wearing mecha-quartz movements to make them tick. The design, though, was pure collector when it came to proportion and purity of purpose.
The initial models in Furlan Marri’s lineup, all limited, were phenomenally popular, even bagging a GPHG award. This is both expected and somewhat ironic. Expected because the watches have everything going for them — looks, quality and price. The irony comes in because, for a brand built on accessibility and inclusivity, it was surprisingly tricky to get hold of their watches, what with limited production runs and the inevitable after-market premiums.
That accessibility issue changes today with the addition of the brand’s first permanent collection with three new references, all mecha-quartz chronographs.
