Join Wei and Constant as they dive deep into the Grail Watch 9: Moritz Grossmann x Kari Voutilainen Benu 37 ‘Silver Bullet’; as the Saxon masters cross paths with the Finnish watchmaking legend and create this masterful collaboration.
In 2008, Christine Hutter, a watchmaker, secured the rights to the trademark of Moritz Grossmann and thereafter, the Grossmann Uhren GmbH was founded in Glashütte to modernize one the most important brand in the history of German watchmaking, by using modern technology and making it relevant to the watch market today, which had stayed dormant for more than 120 years. If you are an avid watch enthusiast, you will soon come across the name Kari Voutilainen. The Finnish watchmaker needs no introduction as he is rare among his peers for being as skilled with his hands as a watchmaker and as he is with business, proving to be extremely capable of building and maintaining a sustainable business. Kari Voutilainen is famously known for his exquisite dial work, especially guilloché, a decorative technique in which an intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via engine turning, created by his dial factory, Comblémine. Voutilainen had stayed relevant with dials using inventive motifs, daring color combinations, or bringing in other materials, such as enamel or onyx. Our Grail Watch 9: Moritz Grossmann x Kari Voutilainen Benu 37 ‘Silver Bullet’ is housed in a 37 x 9.2 mm white gold case with an amazing Sterling Silver dial with both guilloché and Clous de Paris motif made by Kari Voutilainen himself. Paired together with the signature violet-brown hands by Moritz Grossman and it is among the thinnest hands in the world. Within the case, housed a masterfully finished manual winding caliber 102.1, the German silver masterpiece made with untreated Sterling Silver which will gain patina over time, featuring a Saxon signature 2/3 Glashütte plate and hand-engraved balance cock and escape-wheel cock. The caliber has a power reserve of 48 hours and operates at 21,600 beats per hour.
