The Absolutely Eclectic RM 07-01 Coloured Ceramics by Richard Mille

Summer is no longer confined to a season, as Richard Mille unveils the splashy RM 07-01 Coloured Ceramics collection. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant and eclectic aesthetics of the 1980s Italian art and architecture movement known as Memphis Design, this collection boldly marries artistic creativity with cutting-edge watchmaking technology.

Cécile Guenat, Creative and Development Director at Richard Mille, explains the allure of Memphis Design, saying, “I find Memphis Design particularly fascinating in its diversity and freedom. The creator’s goal at the time was to escape the strictures of Modernist aesthetics, and they were pioneers in the use of all types of materials through their designs.”

At the heart of these timepieces lies the art of guillochage, a decorative technique that requires an intricate process, involving the careful engraving of geometric patterns on surfaces.

The collection features dials crafted from gray PVD-treated red gold, adorned with the Memphis motif, while the bezel and caseback are constructed from Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal (TZP) ceramic in captivating summer-inspired colors — blush pink, lavender, and powder blue. TZP ceramic is celebrated for its exceptional lightness, durability, and color retention, ensuring that these timepieces retain their vibrant hues over time.

The automatic-winding calibre CRMA2, created from skeletonized, microblasted and electroplasma treated grade 5 titanium, powers the time-only pieces.
